Jose Mourinho "guarantees" John Terry will be a Chelsea player next season
Jose Mourinho has confirmed John Terry will be at Chelsea next season.
Skipper Terry revealed his fears about his future after inspiring the Blues to Capital One Cup glory on Sunday. The 34 year-old has yet to sign a new deal and claimed he was still in the dark.
But Mourinho is adamant Terry will get the contract extension he wants before this season is up.
Mourinho said: “Before the end of the season (it will be sorted) for sure but what I can guarantee is he will be a Chelsea player next season because I know what my board tells me and the player tells me so no doubt he is going to get his contract.”
Asked if an agreement had been reached and all that was missing was Terry’s signature, Mourinho said: “I think it is like that.”
Mourinho believes Terry has proved he has plenty left in the tank with his displays this season. And he claims his form means Chelsea don’t have to rush to find a long-term replacement.
Mourinho said: “Everyone of these big guys are difficult to replace.
“But at the same time you still have the player and he is still an important player but you have to start thinking what next.“That is the best way to do things.“Sometimes you have the solution around the corner and sometimes you have to look outside your club.“But this is a process we can take our time with because John is proving again this season that he is a player for years.
“When I came back last year he was coming from a difficult period but last year he was good and this year even better.“So, normally, he has time to enjoy his football with us. At the same time, he gives us time to think about what next.”
