Mesut Ozil: The only player who would be criticised for scoring these famous goals

Mesut Ozil's critics ALWAYS find something wrong with his performance. So how would they have reacted if the Arsenal man had scored these famous wondergoals?

Mesut Ozil as Geoff Hurst: Let's forget he would have been playing for the other side for a moment
Poor old Mesut Ozil. It doesn't matter how well he plays, how far he runs or how many chances he creates - whatever he does, you KNOW he's going to get slagged off for something.
Last night against Monaco was the perfect example. The £42m World Cup winner had a cracking game, working his socks off and constantly looking dangerous.
But did he get any credit for his performance? Nope. Instead, he was berated for letting an opponent have his shirt at half-time (*GASP*) and once again blamed for Arsenal's woes.
In fact, the reaction to anything Ozil does is now so predictable (ignore all the good stuff, somehow find a negative), we got to thinking… what if it had been Mesut Ozil who had scored these famous individual wondergoals?

Michael Owen v Argentina, 1998

THE ACTUAL REACTION: "One of England's finest ever goals. A masterclass in pace and balance, this wonderful World Cup solo goal has launched Owen onto the world stage."
THE REACTION IF OZIL HAD SCORED IT: "Paul Scholes was in a better position to shoot. He should have left it for him, the greedy sod."

Geoff Hurst v West Germany, 1966

THE ACTUAL REACTION: "A last minute, left-foot thunderbolt seals a 4-2 win and crowns the finest moment in English football history."
THE REACTION IF OZIL HAD SCORED IT: "What's he doing going for goal? At 3-2 up in injury time, he should be taking that into the corner and running down the clock."

David Beckham v Wimbledon, 1996

THE ACTUAL REACTION: "David Beckham sees Wimbledon keeper Neil Sullivan off his line and hits the perfect shot from halfway, executing the strike perfectly and propelling himself to superstardom."
THE REACTION IF OZIL HAD SCORED IT: "Yeah, OK, THAT one went in. But that type of selfish play is exactly what's wrong with Ozil's game. Just play it simple once in a while, for God's sake."

Wayne Rooney v Man City, 2011

THE ACTUAL REACTION: "Acrobatic, accurate and astonishing - Rooney's bicycle kick is undoubtedly the finest goal ever scored in a Manchester derby."
THE REACTION IF OZIL HAD SCORED IT: "As if Arsenal haven't got enough injury problems already, there's Ozil flinging himself about, risking a broken collarbone or a dislocated shoulder. Typical."

Paul Gascoigne v Scotland, 1996

Getty Images
THE ACTUAL REACTION: "The perfect illustration of Gazza's genius, as he creates something out of nothing to score one of the finest and most famous goals in Wembley history."
THE REACTION IF OZIL HAD SCORED IT: "Yeah, sure - he can do it against Colin Hendry and Scotland. But would he be able to do that against a Spain, Holland or Italy? No chance. And he scuffed that volley…"
